Day 1
We were picked up by Sally and Jason the owners of SupXscape and driven to our accomodation at BSURF hostel for the next few days, once unpacked we were straight off to Obidos Lagoon for a great flatwater paddle led by Sally. Set in some of Portugal's amazing landscape the lagoon paddle was an experience to say the least and a good warm up for the surf to come. Jason and Sally helped our club paddlers Dan, Jade and Dan with some technique to help them in the surf.

Day 2
After a tasty breakfast we were off on the hunt for some surf and with Jasons local knowledge we found the perfect spot to begin the ASI level 3 course. One thing to say about Portugal is there is always waves ! The guys were led through the basics of surfing and the conditions then it was out on the water to put those skills to the test in some small clean waves. After lunch Jason continued with the course and you could see the progression already from the guys. Scott and Chris took advantage of some waist high waves and got a great session in for the afternoon. All in all a perfect start to the course and it was finished off by a meal in a local restaurant and a good rest for the next day.

Day 3
The next day the wind had changed direction making the conditions much more challenging, but this gave Sally and Jason the chance to show us some of the amazing spots around Portugal including the legendary Supertubos which was breaking perfectly in a strong offshore wind. Jason continued with the course using this as a chance to explain the importance of some of the theory behind SUP surf. After lunch the day was finished with a paddle into the lagoon where we even got a chance to try a little downwinding ! It was then off to bed for another well earned sleep.

Day 4
On the final day of our trip we all wanted one last surf before getting on the plane so Jason and Sally took us to an amazing beach with some perfect chest high offshore waves. Scott and Chris were straight into the water whilst Jason briefed the guys on the conditions before they headed out too. The sun was out and we had the waves all to oursleves ! you could not have had a better finish to the trip. There was just enough time to give out the certificates to Dan, Jade and Dan for achieveing thier ASI level 3 and then off to the airport and home. An unforgetable time was had by all !

Watergate bay
Scott and Chris also entered the BSUPA surf competition at Watergate bay this year, and although the conditions were very challenging it was a great experience and both were proud to have represented Central SUP at the event. The event was superbly organised by Richard Marsh and BSUPA and there was a hell of a lot of talent on the water, both Chris and Scott gave it thier best in some huge onshore windy surf with Scott putting up a great fight for two heats and Chris making it into the 3rd round. Andre Le Geyt won the mens surf and Maria Buchanan the womens open surf. The BOP race was won by Charlie Grey in the 12'6'' class and Matt Smith in the 14' class. The expression session was taken by Gareth Grant and Andre secured the title of 2012 Watergate bay waterman. In the womens BOP it was Maria Buchanan taking first Arron Rowe and Holly Basset taking the juniors titles respectively. one thing i can say about the event is that it is clear we have some great paddlers in the UK and the SUP scene is growing so get invloved and get to an event. There are lots of different events over the winter for all abilities in the frostbite series so check out our facebook page if you want to get involved. We will be holding a winter paddle race with prizes ourselves soon as well as offering some more surf trips to our ASI level 1 and 2 paddlers. Thats it for now ! Central SUP.
