ISLANDER PADDLER SUP AND PADDLE FEST!
SATURDAY AUGUST 21ST 2010

DUE TO A VARIETY OF FACTORS, I HAVE HAD TO RESCHEDULE OUR HAYLING EVENT TO SATURDAY THE 21ST AUGUST, PRIMARILY ON ACCOUNT OF TOO MANY OTHER HAPPENINGS ON THE 14TH/15TH...THIS BEING THE CASE I HOPE MORE OF YOU WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE IT.
In keeping with the 'Hayling is Like Hawaii' myth, we would like to extend our warmest aloha to you all in inviting you to our second event of the year, 'The Island Paddler SUP Festival' and look forward to welcoming you to our temperate island paradise........swim wear as depicted in the image below however, will not be tolerated. Thankyou.

Race Director: Steve West. I wont be competing, but will be taking care of the event. Please feel free to contact me with any questions / suggestions over the course of the next few weeks.
Entry Fee £25 (Pre-entry CC, Debit Card, PayPal) - £30 Late Entry (On the day - cash only) includes race entry, SUP workshops, OC sessions, evening cruise, rescue boat coverage, Rick and the Riverias Band, camaraderie, prizes, even perhaps some 'free stuff' and all the usual extraneous benefits of a supernatural nature beyond the realms of explanation, the likes of which are by nature, priceless.

FRIDAY 20TH
Please feel free to arrive early and take advantage of some of the clubs great facilities prior to race day. The club has excellent, well priced food at its restaurant and cafe and a well stocked bar and with some of the best views on the South Coast. For more details regarding Hayling Island Sailing Club.

SATURDAY 21ST
9.30am Registration What's this? The registration process, ensures that we know you have arrived and have signed on for the day. Registration will close at 10.30am in the lead up to the race.
11am Primary Race: High Water is 10.16am Low Water 3.38pm. With this in mind I am planning a 10 mile race from the lagoon behind the Sailing Club starting approximately 11am, up to Chichester Harbour to Hayling Island Bridge area and back.
Race Directors Disclaimer: In the event of favourable conditions, adverse or otherwise I (we), reserve the right to amend the course for your safety and enjoyment.
Board Divisions: 12'6" and Unlimited Gender: Male / Female Age Divisions: Open and Masters Division (40 years +)
'IN KEEPING WITH OUR USUAL GROUND-BREAKING APPROACH TO ALL THINGS SUP, WE RECOGNISE THE NEED TO OFFER A MASTERS DIVISION IN ORDER THAT THE YOUNGER PADDLERS AMONGST US STAND A BETTER CHANCE OF GETTING A PODIUM FINISH, IT'S NOT RIGHT HAVING US VETERANS HOG THE PODIUM.'
ALL MASTERS DIVISION PADDLERS - MUST WEAR RIDICULOUSLY LOAD ALOHA STYLED BUTTON UP SHIRTS. THIS IS MANDATORY. FAILURE TO WEAR SUCH A GARMENT, WILL BE DEEMED 'NOT IN KEEPING WITH THE ALOHA SPIRIT OF THE SPORT' A PRIZE SHALL BE ISSUED TO THE MOST VISUALLY HIDEOUS GARMENT, TO BE JUDGED BY FRANK DUNSTER RNLI MULTIPLE MEDAL WINNER FOR BRAVERY.
 
Tip: The orange shirt would be a high scoring garment - the blue hibiscus not so high!
1.30pm: Lunch, recovery, prize giving 2.30pm: SUP workshops
The workshops are being confirmed and will include guest facilitators. Venue for each Workshop also to be confirmed ie beach / room allocation
Guys only Workshop - Covering Basic Paddling Technique / Benefits of Participation Girls only Workshop - Covering Basic Paddling Techniques / Benefits of Participation
The focus of these sessions will be to provide novice and intermediate paddlers with some essential ground work in regards to paddling techniques and principles, while stressing the benefits associated with participation. It will also provide a window of opportunity to ask questions.
Board Design Workshop - Focus will be on presenting the differing Stand Up Paddleboard designs currently available, their suitability to a variety of SUP disciplines, adventuring, surf, recreation, racing, downwind paddling. Learn what 'rocker' is and how it affects you the paddler, the importance of board trim, differing rail shapes, board widths, fin set-ups and more and what the future holds.
Paddle Design Workshop - Considers the anatomy of a paddle, the differing applications of form and function and how paddles are intended to function in relation to paddling technique. Learn how to access a paddles qualities and gain some insight into the significance a paddle plays as a part of the sport.
Training Principles / Physiological Gains Through SUP Participation - Gain insight into how the mechanics of Stand Up Paddleboarding can benefit you physiologically and how this relates to your every day life and involvement with other sports. Hear about some of the myths whilst revealing some of the great benefits to be had.
3.38: Low Water 5.00pm: Afternoon SUP cruising session on the incoming tide for novices and one and all. 5.00pm: OC1 and OC2 (Outrigger Canoeing) paddling session with Steve West 6.30pm: Time to relax, freshen up for dinner, drinks and a party!

Laying down some great 1950s rock 'n roll sounds, featuring our very own SUP paddler, HISC Member (and my beautiful wife) Mandy on the Saxophone, who has played in BB King's Blues Bar in Memphis Tennessee, played with Earl Gibson of the Sensational Inkspots at Hammerstone's Missouri, played at the Oyster Bar Missouri, jammed with Arthur Lee Williams and Chuck Berry's key board player, played at the 100th Anniversary of the Harley Davidson Motorbike in Memphis and played for Budweiser Beer in Arkansas. She also played in the opening line up for the Gloucester Blues Festival and more besides. Expect to be moved!

Enjoy a recover club breakfast, or a club Sunday Roast! Go for a paddle or if you're up for it head down toBournemouth for the SUP Workshop for even more SUP madness!
