It was with a fair amount of excitement that my wife and I returned to our adopted island of Lanzarote this last September after our annual Cornish Summer. Generally I’ll be coming back with some sort of plunder, perhaps a new Bilbo tow-board or a nice sleek ‘Island Series’ semi-gun for those magic winter days. This time, however was the first time we’d arrived on the volcanic shores with stand up paddle boards and after a summer’s Cornish fun and a quick jaunt to Bali we were keen to see what there was to offer...................................

In 4 weeks time, the first UK race of 2010 gets underway at Hayling Island. Have just come off the water having paddled the 4.5 then the 2.5 mile course and now just off to HISC for a pint to watch the sun go down! Looking forward to welcoming you all here for a great event.

Hayling Island Sailing Club is pleased to announce the introduction of 'Stand Up Paddleboarding' to this years most famous of Hayling board sport events, 'The Around Hayling Windsurfing Race' in its 30th anniversary year and first staged in 1980, founded by Peter Williams and Steve West, an event which helped pioneer the sport of Windsurfing in the UK, bringing prestige, promotion and notoriety to the sport. This year we're expecting up to 100 windsurfers and 50 stand up paddleboarders!

The Battle of the Paddle is possibly the world's largest SUP festival event with over 300 people entering. Normally it is held at Dana Point in california.This year the organisers have added an event in Hawaii! How cool? Check out the poster below:

Three of Britain’s best stand up paddleboarders met at West Wittering windsurf club at this Friday, 29th January to launch the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) 2010 Challenge, a Guinness World Record™ breaking attempt to cross the English Channel in June this year that also aims to raise at least £10,000 for SAS’s campaigns and celebrate the organisation’s 20th anniversary.

25 members since December, plenty of SUP activity so far and much much more to come.......

The newly formed Starboard UK SUP Race team have launched a blog where you can keep up to date with all that is going on with the team from news, results, training as well as opportunities to become part of the team.
